County Championships: Tarrytown-Sleepy Hollow Daily Sports ...

Track & Field News from Dick Miller

On May 19th, at Byram Hills, Sleepy Hollow High and the Hackley School both competed at the Westchester County Track and Field Championship. Both the Mt. Vernon boys and girls competitors were the winners on the day, while Sleepy Hollow's girls were 7th, with 25 points.

Boys

For Hackley, Hackley's Robert Cacace was 3rd in the Javelin, with a distance of 157-07. He was 10th in the 3000, in 11:05.47, while teammate Anderson Garcia was 11th, at 11:39.24, and Jed Dio Guardia was 12th, in 11:47.91. They were the school's sole competitors in the meet.

In Sleepy Hollow boys events, Mike Valentin was 21st in the Shot Put, at 21-55, while fellow Horseman David Maldonado was 23rd in the 1600, clocked at 4:54.0,?Will Stallings was 7th in the 200, timed at 23.00, and Darien James 52nd in 25:65. The 4 x 100 foursome was 16th, with a clocking of 48:75.

Girls

For the Sleepy Hollow girls, Gillian Berger was the top scorer, as she copped two events, the Long Jump with her distance of 17-08.50, and the Triple Jump at 38-06.50. She was 6th in the 100, clocked at 12:94., with Gabriella Maldonado 4th, clocked at 12:85, who also finished 7th in the 200, with a time of 26.41.

College News from Dick Miller

It was an unbelievable end to the season for Lamik Harik (Hackley '08) and her teammates on the 15th, as she and her Amherst lacrosse team, in the N.C.A.A. opening game at Cortland, with The College of New Jersey, were leading, 7-4 , with 7:04 remaining in the contest, when an opposing player scored 4 unanswered goals, with 2 of them unassisted and the last with .05 seconds remaining, to win the game, 8-7.

In this, her final college game in the nets for the Lord Jeffs,?Harik had 8 goals against and made 9 saves in the finale. In the nets for 18 games and starting 16 of them, she played for 1081.59 minutes, in action for all but 8:38 minutes, and made 102 saves and had 114 goals against during the season.
